Marilyn Martin’s book Between Dreams and Realities is based on extensive research and experience. It includes information about Bruce’s important contribution when he worked at the SA National Gallery and information about his Numinous Beast sculpture, which is featured on the back cover of the book.
The book revisits important exhibitions, events and forgotten controversies. It highlights the achievements of directors, who often faced political agendas and strained relationships within and outside the institution.
“It is a magnificent and enduring physical and spiritual sentinel and guardian of the institution, but also a commemoration of the annihilation of the indigenous San people”
